With a background in insurance and administration, lodging claims and processing financial contracts were more Garth’s expertise than managing the sanitisation and fogging of the Brisbane City Council bus fleet.
After family illness forced Garth to leave his job to become a full-time carer, he engaged Max Solutions to assist in his return to the workforce. Garth joined Multhana in early 2020 as a cleaner sanitising buses.
While having never professionally cleaned or sanitised before, Garth took advantage of the in-house training opportunities available and worked hard, going above and beyond. After becoming Supervisor for two of the depots, Garth was promoted to Client Services Manager.
What does a day at Multhana look like for you?
My role is to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible for my team and the client. At the start of the shift I will make sure everyone has the right supplies to carry out their tasks, such as gloves, chemicals, and cleaning mitts. I then check in with my supervisors on any changes for the day, and go through safety procedures and policies to my team.
I will also conduct a site audit and check in with the depot staff to make sure they are happy with the service we provide, and if there is anything else we can help with. At the end of the shift I usually have my head in managing bus counts for seven depots and timesheets for about 70 staff!
What is your favourite thing about working at Multhana?
Working at Multhana is one of the best jobs I have ever had – it has really changed my life! It feels so great to be part of an organisation that cares about the impact they have on their employees. The team here are all so hard working, there is a real focus on personal growth and working together to achieve goals.
What have you learnt working at Multhana?
So far my time at Multhana has taught me to be patient. It sounds cliché but the most important thing I’ve found is to not give up, and to keep an open mind. I am so glad I put my hand up and said ‘Hey, let’s give this a go’, because I would never be where I am now in my career and personal life if I hadn’t.
It’s funny how things work out, especially when you’re given a chance and you’re willing to give anything a go!
What are you passionate about?
I love cycling in my spare time, especially when it’s good weather. I also love spending time with my two very affectionate cats, Monty and Patchy!
